How do I let repeat callers through Do Not Disturb on Android?

Open Settings, find Modes or Do Not Disturb, go to the People or Calls section and turn on Allow repeat callers. A call then gets through when the same person calls twice within fifteen minutes. Google notes the wording and the path differ between manufacturers, so a Samsung or Xiaomi will not match a Pixel exactly.

Android's Do Not Disturb has a specific escape hatch for someone trying to reach you twice.

  1. Open Settings and look for Modes, or Do Not Disturb on devices that still use the older name. On a Pixel it sits under Notifications.
  2. Open the Do Not Disturb mode and find the section for People, then Calls.
  3. Choose who may call: everyone, contacts, starred contacts, or nobody.
  4. Turn on Allow repeat callers. Google documents this as letting a call through when the same person calls twice within fifteen minutes.

Two things routinely go wrong here. If calls are set to None, people report that repeat callers still do not get through, so pick a contacts option rather than blocking everything. And this is a Do Not Disturb setting, not a volume setting: with the ringer itself turned down, an allowed call arrives without a sound.

Google is explicit that these screens vary between manufacturers. Samsung, Xiaomi and OnePlus each lay out the same options differently and sometimes use different words, so treat the path above as a Pixel path and search your own Settings for "repeat" if it does not match.

How RingIt helps

RingIt never goes through the call path, so Do Not Disturb rules do not decide whether it makes noise. On Android it uses an alert channel that bypasses silent mode and Do Not Disturb, and the ring is triggered by someone you invited by email tapping once in their own app. That person has to have been added before the phone went missing, and the phone needs to be on and online for the push to arrive. RingIt does not show a location; for a phone that has left the house, use Find Hub, which Google used to call Find My Device.
